The Last Walk

Performance Artist Stuart Brisley recounts an event that he witnessed  when he was taking his dog out for the last time before it was to be rehomed. The story that he relates  seems so bizarre  that I was left wondering whether Brisley has fabricated the whole thing, it is impossible to know. The voice is compelling and has an authority which paradoxically seems to  make his story plausible.  His recollections of seeing a man burning to death on a fire whilst  out walking, and his own and others' reactions to this event is accompanied by a projection of hand processed colour negative that has been visually broken down, fragmented and distorted. This abstraction enables the viewer to intepret the visual imagery in their own way. As the story unfolds an eerie accompanying soundtrack of a distant droning sound builds, there is a dog barking in the distance  and a crackling sound that co-incides with the visual imagery changing from a gentle blue to a charred orangey red.
