MY RESPONSE TO THE SITE

Being interested in the park's industrial heritage I  started researching the 'William Morris connection' and Morris's printing studios in nearby Merton Abbey Mills and the industrial usage  of the River Wandle,  which passes through the park. The estate itself had also previously employed a large workforce for agricultural pursuits onsite. I put out a call to the others in the group for a collaborator and so Deb and I decided to work together on this project.

Arranging Trust: Artists respond to Morden Hall Park

My role in securing the space and co-ordinating the project

I made a number of email enquiries by email to the National Trust Southern Region Headquarters and to Morden Hall Park, and subsequently received a phone call from the Trust at Buckinghamshire which was followed up by an email  from Morden Hall Park offering me a free space in the Stable Yard Gallery.

I met the contact there at the park and took photos which I circulated to the group along with website details and some background information of the venue, it history and heritage.

I  invited the group to visit so we could whether to go ahead. After a visit by  8 of us, we decide to decision was made to book the space from  2-23 October 2012.

Meetings/ discussions on our intentions: Throughout the lead up to the exhibition I was co-ordinating meetings and  conversations at the park and by email.  Discussions were around the type of work we would make whether we would collaborate and work in groups or work singly.

We decided that we would respond to the space over the three week period by making as many visits as we were each able to do. Iniital ideas that arose included film, sculpture , film installation, textiles.

I drafted a proposal with two colleagues which was distributed to the group and submitted to The Stable Gallery.
